Welcome to Southpaw Acres, the home of the Mariannino Family and all of our animals. We are located in Rice, VA. As you can see we have Boxers, Australian Shepherds, Nigerian Dwarf Goats and Netherland Dwarf Rabbits. Life is always busy around our house. We purchased our first Boxer, Lila, in 1998. What a joy she was. She introduced us to a great breed of dogs. So of course we purchased/retained more Boxers. We even tried our hand at AKC Confirmation shows. But with two young children, it proved difficult to entertain the children and the dogs on long weekends. We plan to try again when the children are older. Since we love animals and have land, we decided that we wanted goats . . . Nigerian Dwarf Goats, that is. What cute, social creatures they are. They love the children and tolerate the dogs. Then, because we both had Australian Shepherds growing up, we decided that we wanted to get an Aussie. Denim was brought home in Jan of 2009. She is a great addition to our family and is so smart, plus she gets to help herd the goats. Then since we originally wanted a red merle, we were on the hunt again. Penny was brought home in Sept of 2009, one day before my father passed away. What a help she was in helping me heal. This spring the boys and I saw the cutest little bunnies . . . Netherland Dwarfs. Well, needless to say, we added some of them to our growing farm. We knew we wanted pigs and donkeys at our farm too. So first, the pig. After much research, we decided on Pot Bellied Pigs. Our first addition, Petunia, came home in Dec of 2009. We are waiting for our Porky to be old enough to come home in Jan 2010. Next? Donkeys . . . of course! Since we have such a growing farm, we thought we better put in a barn. We are still working on it but it is coming along nicely. I can't wait for it to be finished. My nails will never be the same again!
